After news of actor Paul Walker's death, an editor of a feminist website turned to Twitter to ask why Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker couldn't have perished instead.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

"Why couldn't it be Scott Walker?" Jezebel news editor Erin Gloria Ryan tweeted Saturday night.

Its the internet, like you'd reliably expect a classy reaction to someones death.

Then again, one of Jezebel's groupthink topics made me avoid what could be the WORST disservice to Walker himself. I had to google her (Erin's) name and bam, some dickhead on Twitter was pissing on Paul Walker.

There are other commenters on Jezebel defending the comment and seconding the call for Scott Walker's death.

There are times when I wish the internet didn't exist.

It happens? To an editor? It's not like she's an intern. I expect as much slack to be given by Jezebel and co. to the next right-wing politician that slips up if that's the viewpoint we're taking.

That's feeding off what's trending and morphing it into a worse thing. That's what the WBC does. They pick random trending stuff, say god hates them, and picket. I appreciate Jezebel for being a distinguished blog, but they shouldn't be morphing Paul Walker's tragic death into a (not even funny) comment why someone else should have died. Not cool, Jezebel. C'est pas cool, Jezebel.

I would like to remind oppo of something important here... while Erin's comment was rude, heartless, disturbing and completely uncalled for in every respect We cannot blame every Jez for her completely souless, ignorant, moronic and just plain horrible comment. I like to think that many of the commenters at Jez are like us oppos, jalop, giz, or kotaks that are taking a genuine interest in the topic and working to draw positive attention to their industry/culture/cause/hobby of choice. So please, especially in this difficult time, lets assign judgement to those who deserve judgement and preserve the relationship with those who have not wronged us.

When was it ever a good idea to joke about the death of ANYONE?

Erin, as an editor and contributor - is a reflection of Gawker media, which says a lot about Gawker, frankly. She may very well be a great person. I've never met her. But there is a funny paradigm concerning online journalism: that is, the only visibility and the only opinion we can form of her is based upon what she posts.

You'd think as a professional, assuming she is one ... she'd realize that.

My guess is she does and made a mistake; but it's still hard not to believe that she fully intended to say what she said. After all, she defended the comments and followed them up with other equally inappropriate jokes and subsequent comments.

It was only when she realized that people were calling her out - and likely, that her job may be in jeopardy - that she redacted ...

Your character reference means basically nothing to me because it is your testimony against what she posted on Twitter. We know what she posted on Twitter. On the other hand, we have to accept your character testimony on blind faith. Are you asking us to accept something on blind faith?

To make matters worse, this isn't the first time that people have made death threats against Scott Walker or jokes about his death.

As a citizen of Wisconsin, this makes me intensely angry and disappointed.

I posted in another thread that was vilifying Josh Romney about how disappointing it was that people are burning him at the stake for simply smiling in a photo. On top of that, it’s a fact that he helped some folks out.

Keep going, Jalops. You're working hard to prove how classless Gawker truly is.

Are liberals simply incapable of separating the person from the viewpoint?

Josh is a human being, just like Scott Walker, just like you – is he not?

I get it that you may not agree with him, but why does that matter? Isn't it a principle of basic debat to attack the argument and not the person?

The most puzzling part about all of this is that a huge liberal sticking point is equality for everyone. Regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender ... liberals preach about how everyone should be equal.

So why the double standard in the case of someone who disagrees with you politically? Are there exceptions to who deserves life? It sure seems like it.

It sure seems that there is a conditional attached to liberal equality. That is: Everyone should be equal ... as long as they agree with the liberal viewpoint.

Is it not shocking and rude to wish death on someone? It's hard to believe that this is even a question that needs answering ... yet that is where we are left.

I thought liberals were the advocates of peace and non-violence ... a group who cares about the well being of … a polar bear - a creature that basically wants you for lunch - and yet, a human with a particular political leaning is somehow not worthy of life?

It's times like these that it's embarrassing to be someone who reads this website. I keep trying to tell myself that Jalopnik is better than the rest of Gawker Media, and I keep on being proved wrong ....

Sure, there are occasional glimmers of hope. Batman Lamborghini dude who makes kids happy. The Subaru car group that put together major show for kid dying of cancer. Occasional article that manages to avoid some sort of slam on anything non-liberal. But they're quickly overshadowed by this stereotypical Gawker garbage.

The beauty of cars and automobiles is that they have the power to bring different people, different ages, and different views together ... and leave those other dividing aspects of life behind for a bit.

On the other hand, hate and political rubbish like Erin's comments tear communities apart.

It's high time for a car enthusiast website that cares more about cars and people building relationships around a community ... and less about covering us all with political agendas dumped out the back of the proverbial liberal dump truck.

And if you’re irritated by my overtly political post ... you have just proven my point beautifully …

The focus should be about the car ...

It might have been a dumb, off-the-cuff comment, but I challenge you to find anyone on Jalopnik who wouldn't rather see any politician suffer fiery death, Republican or Democrat, rather than Paul Walker.

I think all your points are well stated, and I agree if an editor had made that statement about Sebelius instead of Walker a termination would be the end result.

But I've found Jalopnik to be largely free of politics even when the topic might be relevant like the long-term effects of the ACA on auto insurance prices. I really believe the editors, contributors and readers are here foremost because vehicles are fun and that's the best reason of all. It's why this is my favorite web site and I tread lightly in some other Gawker realms

I realize Jezebel is in the publishing family with Jalopnik...maybe Jalopnik's twin. If that's the case, I deem Jezebel as the evil twin. If there's a wholesome television show (rare, but they are out there), you can count on a Jezebel writer to find something wrong with the show—usually the wholesomeness. If a celebrity woman doesn't want to live on the edge, or a political woman supports some type of family values, Jezebel will the be first to demonize these women. Normalizing the underground of yesterday and pushing purity into the underground's open space seems to be the Jez formula.

It doesn't have to mean she's terrible... 'great' people need to be called on their shit too. Let's just say if somebody in my organization acted this way, they'd need a lot more than a half-assed apology to clear the air.

A lot of commenters on Jezebel called her out for it as well.

It should also be said she had other "joke" tweets about his death that also were deleted. "2 fast 2 trusting of the media", "None of you really love Paul Walker. You just love the IDEA of Paul Walker." and "AND YET MILLIONS OF SIGNIFICANTLY LESS HOT PEOPLE STILL LIVE"
